Unlimited Detail, could it be the end of realtime computer graphics (aka polygons) as we know it today? Is it too good to be true? Check out the technology preview demo and decide for yourself. I do miss some information regarding physics, animation and shadows, but this is still early in the development process. The technology is based on point cloud data and a type of search algorithm which only processes the points visible on screen in the current camera angle. Check out their website for more details.

Euphoria is a new animation technology which generates animation in realtime without motion capture or keyframe animation. The first game to take advantage of this technology is Grand Theft Auto 4 (afaik). You have to watch the actual demo to really understand how it works. It’s quite revolutionary.

I’ve recently come across a really interesting tool named Ksplice. It allows you to apply security updates to the linux kernel without rebooting. This is great for systems that can’t have any down periods. As it’s still new software, the author warns about possible bugs that could cause problems. If you plan to use it, you should probably first try to apply the security patch in a test lab before you apply it in a production environment. Take a look at the site for more technical information.

You might say there is no such thing as 4D, but take a look at this demo footage and visit the ProFX site. This new technology demands major processing power to simulate reallife wear and tear in full scale. I’ll admit procedual textures might be a better description than 4D, but the title wouldn’t sound that interesting if it didn’t have 4D in it. :) In short procedual textures are evolving textures, which means they evolve with time and environment.
