My little application, Sleep Preventer, has now been updated to version 1.2. This version adds one new function (a request by a user), prevent your computer from falling asleep but let your display do. This will save som battery time on laptops if you need it running without the display. Also if you plan to run the application for several days on a desktop computer, I would also recommend to enable this function. My plans for the next version is to add parameter support, which lets you start up the application silently, and enable sleep preventing on startup. The application has had over 4000 downloads in just a few days. Originally, I created this application just for myself, but decided to put it up on my webpage in case someone else was interested.

Both of these enhancements (start minimized, and start sleep-preventing right away) would be useful. Typically I want my computer to stay “awake” when I’m running an application that shouldn’t be interrupted, and being able to get that to happen in one click would be great. As the application now works, it takes about the same number of keystrokes as clicking the Power icon and changing to an “always on” plan.
Hi David,
As I’ve stated in my blog: “My plans for the next version is to add parameter support, which lets you start up the application silently, and enable sleep preventing on startup.”. The feature is coming in version 1.3 in the form of parameter support.
In Version 1.3 “Sleep Preventer.exe” /silent will start it minimized in the systray, and another parameter will enable sleep preventing on start up.
Don’t forget that once the application is running, you can single click the tray icon to turn it off and on. That’s just one click
Darkframe you sir rock! Just what I was looking for.
